Russian Olympiad magazine, 1980

Foreign language magazines printed in various nations are some of the rare items in our Olympic-related holdings. The United States was one of 66 countries to boycott the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Soviet Union.

Overview

The modern Olympic Games began in 1896 and have typically been held every four years ever since. The Summer and Winter Games bring together athletes from hundreds of nations, highlighting both the potential for unity and political division. The Games have been the backdrop for some of the most memorable moment in athletic history, as well as protest and tragedy.
