A guide to core research resources and approaches for philosophy grad students

Citation formatting and management tools

Option 1:  Learn the style the best you can and use guides to double check

Option 2:  Use citation generators

You still need to double check citations made through these methods.

  • Category 1--- free options like Citation Machine and Easy Bib can be found on our main library citation help page.
  • Category 2-- most library databases will also generate citations in a variety of styles.  Here is what it looks like in Library Search and all the databases we get from EBSCO.

Option 3:  Use a citation management tool

There are a number of different citation management tools out there, including Zotero, Mendelay, EndNote, and RefWorks.  Some are free, others cost money.  This page from Penn State Libraries does a great head-to-head comparison.

WCU Libraries have access to Endnote Web.  We have a guide to using it.
