PHI 501

A guide to core research resources and approaches for philosophy grad students

Other databases and tools

Other subject databases

We have databases that play the same role as Philsopher's Index for almost every field of study.  A few examples given below, but you can find more through our database listings (use the subject pull-down menu).

JSTOR and Project Muse

JSTOR and Project Muse are both journal repositories.

Strengths: Everything in there is full text.  Interdisciplinary.

Weakness: They don't have the breadth of Philosopher's Index.

Library search tool

Cross searches all the databases mentioned so far, plus many more.

Google scholar

Google algorithm and search interface are very different from what library databases use. Sometimes this is a good thing!
