Innovation Media Center (IMC)

Effective Fall 2025: Due to the increasing demands of IMC printing production, all staff and faculty with an approved cost center class list must submit a Cost Center Print Request prior to printing.
This new procedure is designed to streamline communication, save time (and inbox space), and improve efficiency for both IMC and all departments involved.

This page will act as a guide, in case you run into any questions while filling out the form. If you still have questions, please reach out to us using the information in the "Contact Us" box

Common Problems

Common problems typically found:

  • File Size: file size doesn't match with the dimensions given on print request form or cost center requirement
    • Problem: Staff will have to email student to have the file re-sized and re-formatted which causes a delay in printing
    • Possible solution:
      • Powerpoint: The two most common poster template sizes are available HERE
      • Canva: Use this guide to get the right dimensions before start designing HERE
      • Google Slides: University of Minnesota has a design guide & free templates HERE

  • Heavy Ink: typically having black/dark color background with little white space to break it up will result in extra charge
    • Problem: Staff will have to email student to have the file re-designed which causes a delay in printing
    • Possible Solution: For best possible design layout using color, review this page on Design Basics

  • Paper Type: Student chose a paper type that's different from the cost center restriction
    • Problem: Staff will have to confirm with department/faculty to ensure that poster is within cost center's budget restriction
    • Possible Solution: Be sure to inform students of their available options and any restrictions before they submit their print request. In some cases, students may choose to cover any remaining balance themselves.
