Guide introduction

This guide is intended to help guide students who need to find sources for projects in Ethnic Studies classes here at WCU.

  • This page provides information to steer you to resources that apply across all the focus areas in the minor, including Multi-Ethnic Studies.
  • The other pages of this guide point to more specialized resources that focus on specific ethnic groups covered in the Minor.

A starting point for any topic

Ethnic Studies is extremely interdisciplinary, which can make it hard to decide where to get started for research.  If you are looking for scholarly sources, the Library Search tool (search box on the library homepage) is always a good option.  Using it you will find:

  • Scholarly journal articles from many disciplines
  • Scholarly books and book chapters
  • Streaming documentary videos
  • News and magazine articles

Research by discipline

Another approach to take is to search for sources from the discipline that the class you are taking aligns with.  Below are links to the research guides for the department/disciplines that are represented in Ethnic Studies here at WCU, along with the relevant course prefixes.

Anthropology and Sociology (course prefixes are ANT and SOC)

Social Work (course prefix is SWO)

English (course prefixes are CLS, ENG, LIT, and WRH)

History (course prefix is HIS)

Political Science (course prefix is PSC)

Philosophy and Religion (course prefixes are PHI and PAX)

Languages and Cultures (course prefixes are ARB, CHI, EFR, ERU, ESP, HBW, ITA, JPN, RUS, and SPA)
