Children's Literature

The books in the Children's Room are arranged by book type: picture books, juvenile fiction, juvenile non-fiction, board books, big books, and reference books. Everything, except the reference books, can be borrowed for 35 days and may be renewed for an additional 35 days. The reference books are for use in the library and cannot be borrowed.

Need a book we don't own? 

• Request the book from another library using interlibrary loan
• If you live on campus, you can get a card to the West Chester Public Library

• Picture books are located nearest to the windows. They have the designation jP and are on the shelves in alphabetical order by the author's last name.
• Juvenile Fiction (chapter books through YA) are located in the middle of the room. They have the designation J and are in alphabetical order by the author's last name.
• Juvenile Non-fiction are arranged on the shelves near the door closest to the hallway. They are arranged in by subject according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
• Board Books are located the tall bookcase on the wall with windows.
• Big Books are located on the large flat shelving near the non-fiction books. These are oversized versions of picture books suitable for early childhood.
• Juvenile Reference books are on the left side of the room as you enter from the hallway.
