Tip 2: EDGAR is not smart and efficient in name search. The syntax for Name Search has to be part of the company name in the system. For instance, for Facebook, the full name recorded in EDGAR is “Facebook Inc”. No match will be found if you search syntax is “Facebook, Inc” or you have a typo like “Facelook”. In addition, some companies have same syntax in the name, like “apple” and “Ford”. Additional screening is needed to identify the “apple” you are looking for (by checking the name and the SIC code[1], see below as an example).
[1] SIC code is a four-digit code system established in the United States in 1937 to classify industries. The full list of code can be found from the link below:
