Finding Articles

There are two main ways of searching for articles at WCU.

Searching using the search box on the homepage

  1. Enter your search terms in the search box on the library's homepage - try using short 2-3 word phrases instead of questions or sentences. Click the arrow next to where it says All Items below the search box. Select Articles from the list.
  2. Then hit Search. You'll see a results screen like the one below.
Search results page with the option to limit to scholarly/peer-reviewed articles highlighted.
  3. Click on Scholarly/Peer-Reviewed under Show Only if you want articles from peer-reviewed journals only. Sign in if you want to save articles for later.
  4. To get to the full text of an article, click on Download PDF or Full text available or Online access

Searching using databases

  1. Choose a database from our database list. If you're not sure where to start, click on All Subjects and select your major from the list.
  2. You'll need to log in, using your WCU email address and password.
  3. In the search boxes that appear after you login, enter you keywords in one or more boxes, and hit search.
  4. Your results will appear. Click on a title to read more about it.
  5. If full text isn't available in this database, click on Find It/Check Availability to see if we have it another database.
  6. On the new page that appears, click the link next to where it says Full text available at and the full text should open.

Finding Movies

To check if the library has a movie:

  1. Go to the search box on the library's homepage.
  2. Enter the movie title and then look below the search box - switch the box that currently says All Items to Videos.
  3. Click Search.
  4. Scan the results for your title.

If you want to request the video be held for you or mailed to your home, here's how to do that

Use Google Scholar to Access WCU Resources

Let Google Scholar know you should have access to WCU resources by:

  1. Click on the menu (three horizontal parallel lines)in the upper left on the Google Scholar homepage.

  2. Choose Setting from the menu that appears.

  3. Click on Library Links from the left menu.

  4. Search for West Chester University, then click on the box next to the result that says West Chester University Libraries-- Find-It @WCU, and select Save.

After you have done this, look for links that say either Find-It @ WCU or Check Availability @ WCU, to see if full text is available through WCU.
