Finding ebooks

Given that we are all working remotely for the rest of the semester, starting with ebooks is going to be fastest and easiest.

Before you start searching-- take a moment to lock the 3 limits I set into place (so they don't come undone).  Find them at the top of the left-hand column.  Hover over each until each until the padlock icon appears, then click it.  When you are done, all three should show a closed blue padlock.

  • From there, you can adjust the terms in the search box to better fit your own topic.
  • You may also want to set a date limiter to focus on more recent, secondary sources.  You can also use Library Search to find some primary sources, but I will address that on the Primary Sources page.

Finding print books

If you need a book that we only own in print, we will mail it to you, but that will take a few days up to a week.  Currently we only have staff entering the library two days a week to do this. We also send a postage paid return envelope with it.

Here is a link to a catalog search that I limited to print books.

Again, take a moment to lock the "available in the library" limiter at the top of the left column by clicking on the padlock icon.

If you find a print book you'd like to have mailed, please email the information about the book to illoan@wcupa.edu to request it.  It would be extremely helpful if you could provide them with the permalink to the catalog in the email.

To get a permalink:

  • click on the title of the book
  • on the page that appears, click permalink to make it appear

Finding Books from a Bibliography

This is very similar to finding articles, just a couple of tweaks needed to make it work better!

a) Type or copy/paste the name of the book into the Library Search Box.  If it is a shorter title, put it in quotation marks.

b) For books, the results can be confusing, because often a bunch of book reviews will show up!  So, go to the left-hand column under Source Type and select "books".

c) If it shows up, check to see if it is online or in print.

d) If it doesn't show up, then follow steps c, d, and e as you would for articles (above).  The only difference is that you will use EZ-Borrow to request the books instead of ILLiad.
