Bringing the Literature to You

Staying current with literature in your field of study or area of research can seem overwhelming. Using the tools and resources on this guide, you will be able to stay on top of current literature and organize it too!

You need to get the information (citations, table of contents, news alerts, etc.) to come to you vs. you going out to find the information so that you can access and read it all in one place, saving you a lot of time. You can do this by:

  • Setting up an RSS feed reader account or dedicated email account to receive alerts and feeds
  • Follow or subscribe to feeds
  • Set-up database search alerts

Tips

Organize to Organize! You will be signing up for accounts, setting up multiple alerts and feeds and probably on many different topics or keywords. Take it one step at a time:

  1. Choose your options for receiving alerts
    1. Email - which one?
    2. Feed reader - set-up account
  2. Create topic folders in email or feed reader
  3. Organize your accounts, passwords, topics, etc.
  4. Set up RSS feed subscriptions
  5. Set up citation manager account and organize your citations
